HOW TO PREPARE FOR A FLOOD
The first thing to do to prepare for a flood is to get homeowner’s insurance and make sure all of your legal documentation is safe in a waterproof lockbox. Then, organize a meeting place for you and your family as well as an escape route that follows higher roadways. Make sure that all pets will be accounted for. It is a good idea to make sure that your water heater, electric panel and furnace are not on the ground floor because they could be submerged. This could potentially make your house lose heat and cause the water to be electrified and make it even more dangerous to venture into the water.
The other main thing to prepare for any major disaster is to create an emergency kit, which would most likely include:
1: A least a three day supply of water, which is one gallon per person per day.
2: A similar amount of food.
3: A first aid kit.
4: A Flashlight.
5: Extra batteries.
6: All medications and medicinal items that could be required by your family.
7: A multi-purpose tool and other survival items such as knives.
